Offshoring's Disinflationary Aid Ends for US

For decades, as manufacturing was increasingly offshored, the US effectively imported disinflation through lower labor and goods costs. This always posed a risk to the supply chain, due to the geographical concentration of critical inputs outside the US, but for years it worked to the benefit of US businesses and consumers. In the past 2 years, this trend has reversed as the supply chain was disrupted, exacerbating inflation.
